DIY Garden Pond Update | The FREEZE | Part 7
In this video I monitor the effectiveness of using an aerator to prevent the surface from completely icing over. I also check on the fish and sample the water temperatures. At the end I measure the ice thickness and it was surprisingly thinner than expected. This was all during what is usually the coldest time of the year for this region. In this region we typically never have temperatures that stay below freezing consistently for the whole of the winter. There is always freezes and thaws through the season.
The cost of this build was around $3k because I did all the work alone. This would cost between $15-$25k to be done by pros. That's not including the well dig either. Well digs are al...

DIY Garden Pond Update | Water Temps and Winterizing | Part 6
Просмотров 2914 месяца назад
In this video I prep for the first winter. A simple process. The bulk of this is measuring water temps at depth/s and comparing the variations in temperature under different weather conditions. This was mainly to get an idea of how ground temperature effects water temperature. The cost of this build was around $3k because I did all the work alone. This would cost between $15-$25k to be done by ...

I dug a well by hand that taps into a sand/gravel aquifer between 21-23ft underground. The videos related to the well dig are only on my FB page. I used a clam-shell style manual post hole digger and made quick connect extension rod set along with an electric auger motor to dig the well. It took 10 hours straight to dig to 24ft. It is cased and capped. It refills itself from the bottom up in a ...

My Bamboo Grove After 8 Years | 2023 Annual Update

This was planned to be a regular annual update but turned into a documentary about cold tolerance and how weather effects future growth. Every spring I look forward to seeing the grove send up it's new growth and watch it expand. I also hope to see larger and larger canes as long as the winter wasn't too harsh. Maybe one day ill have enough to use the canes to build something. It's been a long ...

This is not a build montage video or story of trial and error. But I show in the video that this final concept design works and explain it. It's a very simple setup and is easy to understand. I avoided explaining my reasoning for doing this to save video time. But I will explain it here...I already had much of this set up from a previous project involving a geothermal test well in my basement. ...

Just a quick clip of the short bright fireball that occurred recently. This one had a distant sonic boom which I felt deserved an upload. This was captured with the Allsky7 meteor detection system and a separate XLR microphone. The background noise is a small waterfall trickling into my pond. I did a similar test many years ago. I used potting soil vs potting soil with 20% worm castings[what I develop at home] after a period of about 2 mo I noticed not only larger plant in the 20% but larger leaves. The plant type were 2 same size salvia plants. I put images of this test online but for the life of me cannot find them now. Maybe with the change of computers cost this or not either way not to be found.

EDIT: These are usually the first questions one asks themselves before buying a toy. Ex: You don't buy a boat if you live 7 hours from the nearest open water. It's not something you should be figuring out after buying a boat...

Good work! I have an ozone generator that maxes out at 12000 mg of ozone per hour and I expose items for no less than an hour to 12. I go scorched earth with it! I also have an ambient air ozone meter to monitor any leaking ozone levels at the exterior of the room where the sanitizing is taking place. Then, I use it for screening the room for safe levels, subsequently to venting the space for a reasonable period time or more, before allowing any physical activity within the area. Caution! Ozone generators don't only produce ozone. They also produce other energetic isotopes of other elements and gaseous compounds from the atmosphere including nitric acid fumes. The ozone and the other energetic isotopes and compounds will attack and have a corrosive effect on many exposed metal surfaces and polymers (Plastics) if saturated for long enough. The rubber feet of my generator crumbled away after my third heavy run, while fumigating a room full of contaminated items. Ozone must be treated with the utmost respect, care, and descension! Please stay safe!

Excellent demonstration. It works the way I thought it did -- not by actually getting struck by lightning/spark, but by bleeding off the static charge so a strike/spark does not happen. But I wasn't absolutely sure until I saw your demonstration. Thank you very much. It also explains why Benjamin Franklin wasn't electrocuted when he demonstrated the nature of lightning with the key attached to a kite.

Great points indeed! But you make time for the things you LOVE. you have to make sacrifices with sleep, work, budgets, family in order to make these hobbies possible. I’ve been in a lot. My wife and kids support my hobbies just like I support theirs in order to make their happiness fulfilled, as they do for me. Unfortunately your work doesn’t care about your happiness and hobbies. Great point for sure, but I also think it wasn’t for you. Most of your examples of describing your flying time seemed to be un enjoyable and or “sketchy”. With more flight time and experience that will change. I think you will revisit this hobby again when the paradigm shifts in the future. Thanks for the video.

Not everyone has a job they can just not show up for or randomly take days off. Lots of solipsism in this comment section where people seem to think everyone’s situation is equal to their own. I would love to get into PPG, but I am a doctor in a government position where I am limited to a month of leave a year that I can take a week at a time. I work 6 days a week and in my time off I would have to decide between that precious time with my family or going across the country to train for something that will take me away from my family even more. Or I can wait until I’m retired.

I think you had to trim some vines that took too much energy. You have to grow 3 watermelons per plant and i think your lights consume energy more than regular LED lights i mean maybe you needed less light i guess using two T8 led lights would be enough and more saving for electricity. It's not necessary to use an oxygen pump.
